The SN74LS283 is a high-speed 4-bit binary full adder with internal carry lookahead. It accepts two 4-bit binary words (A1-A4, B1-B4) and a carry input (C0), then generates the binary sum outputs (Σ1-Σ4) and carry output (C4) from the most significant bit. The device operates with either active HIGH or active LOW operands (positive or negative logic) and features fast carry propagation for high-speed arithmetic operations.

Notes

For cascading multiple adders, connect C4 output to C0 input of next stage. The device can handle both unsigned binary and two's complement signed arithmetic. Sum outputs drive 10 U.L. HIGH and 5 U.L. LOW loads.
