The UM66T is a CMOS LSI melody generator IC designed for applications such as telephones and toys. It features an on-chip ROM programmed for musical performance, resulting in very low power consumption. With a built-in RC oscillator, a compact melody module can be constructed with minimal additional components. The IC operates in level-hold mode for repeated playback when the input is held at a certain level. A dynamic speaker can be driven with an external NPN transistor connected to the output pin.
The UM66T series includes various models, each programmed with a different melody. Examples include UM66T-08S (Happy Birthday), UM66T-09L (Wedding March), UM66T-19L (Für Elise), and UM66T-68L (It's a Small World). The output can directly drive a piezo buzzer or be amplified with an NPN transistor to drive a dynamic speaker. The IC automatically plays the melody when powered on and can repeat when configured in level-hold mode.
